Take Ownership of Your Business
I start my morning at 6:30am
To a text from one of my employees that his check was not processed last night and has not received his weekly paycheck.
This is so not how I wanted to start my morning.
I took a step back and realized how easy it is for responsibilities to fall through the cracks. Even though I pay someone else to ensure payroll is done and processed every Wednesday- LITERALLY A 3 SECOND EMAIL, it is still my responsibility as a business owner to make sure my business runs smooth.
LADIES, LISTEN UP!
No matter who you hire or how good they are, it is YOUR business and it is your responsibility to take ownership of your business. To make sure your business, your money, your operations, your staff, and everything else is taken care of.
It drives me nuts when duties and tasks fall through the cracks due to an employee’s lack of ownership. Not only is it a domino effect- that isn’t good, it reflects poorly on you.
For me, not only did I get a text from one employee missing pay, I had another employee who also didn’t receive her direct deposit and hadn’t even realized it yet because she was still sleeping! I'm sure they’re depending on this money to be in their account for rent and what not. (All of this because ONE person dropped the ball.)
Even though this was a fixable incident, it just goes to show how easy it is for one thing to fall through the cracks and create a potential avalanche of other problems.
The lesson here ladies, is this:
NO MATTER HOW SUCCESSFUL YOU & YOUR BUSINESS ARE, OR BIG AND RELIABLE YOUR TEAM IS, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF WHAT IS YOURS.
It’s your business, your money, your team, and no one is going to care for it the way you do. Watch over what is yours and lead with clarity.
